Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) Electric Heating Panel
Daru Electric recommends
GRC electric heating panels of various sizes are available for sale, suitable for piglet creep areas and early weaned piglet pens. Each size of heating panel is equipped with a heating load area of 150 watts per square meter. The assembled concrete slab with embedded heating cable should be made as thin as possible to maintain a high surface temperature on the heating panel while minimizing heat loss to the ground. In practice, a concrete slab with a central cable of 100 mm thickness is the minimum, which is practical for piglets to lie on. Additionally, a 25 mm thick insulation layer is required under the heating panel, which should be made of extruded polystyrene or extruded polyurethane. Open-cell foam polystyrene is not resistant to high temperatures and must not be used. Edge insulation is very important to minimize lateral heat dissipation. Even if the heating base (150, 175, or 225 watts per square meter) is correctly installed, accidents may occur if it is damaged by pigs. Such accidents can be avoided if the cable used is designed to be operated by an independent 24-volt transformer.
