According to Gansu Electric Power Company, China's first large-scale clean energy transmission UHV DC project (Jiuquan-Hunan Project), with a total investment of 26.2 billion yuan, which transmits wind and solar power from Gansu to Hunan Province, was officially put into full operation on the 23rd.
According to Gansu Electric Power Company, the Jiuquan-Hunan Project, namely the Jiuquan-Hunan ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project, is a key power grid project of China's "West-to-East Power Transmission". After the project's full benefits are realized, it can transmit 8 million kWh per hour. Calculated based on 5,000 hours of transmission per year, it can transmit 40 billion kWh to Hunan annually, meeting one-fourth of Hunan's electricity demand. The Jiuquan-Hunan Project starts from Guazhou County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, crosses the thousand-mile Hexi Corridor, passes through five provinces and municipalities including Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan, and ends at Xiangtan County, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, with a total line length of 2,383 kilometers. The project newly builds two converter stations, Qilian and Shaoshan, with a converter station capacity of 16 million kilowatts and a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts.
A relevant person in charge of Gansu Electric Power Company stated that the Jiuquan-Hunan Project has enormous economic, social, and environmental benefits, and is of great significance for promoting the development of Gansu's energy base, expanding the consumption range of new energy, and improving air quality.
The person in charge said that the Jiuquan-Hunan Project started construction in June 2015 and was fully completed at the end of December 2016. This cross-regional transmission channel, which focuses on serving the transmission of Jiuquan wind power and solar power, fully adopts China's independently developed UHV DC transmission technology and equipment.
